What is the Saddleback Dress?
Named after the timeless tortoise divas I met on a trip to the Galapagos Islands, the Saddleback dress is timeless, easy breezy shift dress designed to just throw on and go.
With a deep V-neck in the front and swirly style lines in the back, this dress is all party on both sides.
The pattern can be easily hacked into a maxi, a top, a ruffle midi, you name it!
It's a quick make that's as easy to put together as it is to wear.
What makes it special?
Beginner-friendly construction: No tricky fastenings + plenty of support for figuring out any fiddly bits.
Optional neckline adjustments: Not into the super deep V? No worries! I include step-by-step instructions on how to raise the neckline for more coverage.
Oversized fit: Easy and breezy, just throw it on over your head!
Hackable design: Make it maxi, add a ruffle, make it a top, add a tie, or a zip for breast fthe possibilities are endless!
What you'll need:
✔ Light to midweight woven fabric (linen, cotton, lightweight denim)
✔ 5/8" (1.5cm) elastic (For the sleeved version)
✔ A safety pin for threading the elastic
✔ Optional: 1/4" (0.5cm) stay tape (recommended for lighter fabrics prone to warping)
Who's it for?
This pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners. There are no tricky techniques used in the construction. The neckline and armholes are finished with a bias facing, but each step is detailed with illustrated instructions + a video tutorial.
